The young player, Andrew Goudelock, is diagnosed with leg cancer before his sophomore year. His leg is amputated, but he fights back. The next season, he tries out and makes the team as a one-legged football player. After that initial season, the cancer returns. Andrew fights back again. He makes the football squad and eventually, the state all-star team. His effort inspires and changes the lives of the coach, his teammates and the entire town.
